FINAL ROUND - LIVE REPORTING

“INDIVIDUALITY COUNTS BUT TEAMWORK DYNAMITES”

The 8th National Moot Court Competition organized by the Law College Dehradun faculty of Uttaranchal University is finally coming to a conclusion with the Final Round. The event witnessed the gracious presence of the Hon’ble Attorney General of India, Mr. R. Venkataramani, as the Chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony. His remarkable speech on the importance of the Constitution in the life of a law student not only motivated the gathering but also upheld the relevance of the theme of Constitutional Law in Moot Court Competitions.

11:25 am: The petitioners were all set to present their case but with their discerning gaze upon each word, judges started putting forth questions on judicial review, the importance of good governance and basic structure doctrine.

11: 35 am: The counsel wage her contentions precisely even though the judges were throwing questions upon her regarding the change of jurisdiction of the Supreme Court as the bench viewed this expansion of jurisdiction justified.

11:40 am: The counsel with sound legal reasoning as her sword and logic as her shield was trying to justify the need to consider the treaty as crucial as the constitution of India.

11:47 am: With a lot of grilling the counsel finally made a way out to move to the second issue based on the applicability of Basic Structure Doctrine on amendments not made under Art. 368.

12:01 pm: The counsel is quoting all the articles of the constitution to satisfy the bench but with no backing of the spirit of the Preamble is leading to a lack of pinch of persuasiveness.

12:10 pm: The tension thickens since the second counsel approached the dias as the bench kept the counsel on her toes with continuous questioning.

12:24 pm: The counsel is factually sound to tackle the questions regarding the grounds of Proclamation of Emergency but legally contradicting her.

12:32 pm: The Counsel-1 of the Respondents has approached the dias to represent the Union of Indiana.

12:45 pm: What derivation is to Physics Precedents is to Law, the counsel although drawing the attention of the bench towards Moot Problem could not back her logic by legal precedents.

12:53 pm:  The judges break their silence, delivering the age-old experience in this legal fraternity,  as they dissect the proceedings with the precision of seasoned legal scholars.

1:00 pm: The judges welcome the second counsel of the respondent with a volley of questions covering the aspects of Jurisdiction of the counsel to stand before the court.

1:11 pm: As the court proceedings are coming to an end the problem is being deeply dissected, the source of abrogating the special status and self-destructive nature of Art. 377AA is being discussed.

1:20 pm: The court room is now being a balloon about to burst as the Petitioners approach the dias to rebut the Respondents.
